WHO ARE NATUROPATHIC MEDICAL DOCTORS

Naturopathic medical doctors are distinct health care professionals that combine the rigors of modern science and the wisdom of nature. Naturopathic medicine takes a patient-centered evidence-based approach with the overarching philosophy of working with nature and the body’s innate physiology and healing processes.

Naturopathic medical doctors are trained as primary care providers who diagnose, treat, and manage patients with acute and chronic conditions, while addressing disease and dysfunction at the level of body, mind, and spirit.

Naturopathic medical doctors are extensively medically trained and attend a four-year medical school that is federally accredited. Naturopathic medical doctors are trained in medical sciences, clinical and laboratory diagnosis, imaging, pharmacotherapy, botanical medicine, acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine, environmental medicine, mind-body medicine, homeopathic medicine, minor surgery, physical medicine (orthopedics, physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, sports medicine, osseous and soft tissue manipulation), injection therapy, musculoskeletal injections (intramuscular, trigger point, and prolotherapy), intravenous therapy, and clinical nutrition.

Six Principles of Naturopathic Medicine

  1. First Do No Harm
  2. The Healing Power of Nature
  3. Identify and Treat the Causes
  4. Doctor as Teacher
  5. Treat the Whole Person
  6. Prevention

MY HEALTH JOURNEY

Growing up, I was healthy. I was energetic, active, and enjoyed all of my hobbies from dance, gymnastics, karate, ice skating, horseback riding, rock climbing, swimming, tennis, golf, to playing the piano.

Out of all my hobbies, I especially loved dance. Dance became my passion. I was classically trained in ballet, jazz, and lyrical and then professionally competed in ballroom dancing.

I was living a happy and vibrant life and living my life to the fullest.

THEN MY ACADEMIC CAREER BEGAN

From College to Medical School and Everything In Between.

Growing up, I always knew that I wanted to be a doctor – to help people, to heal people. I had worked diligently to achieve that dream. Once I started on my higher education journey, I sacrificed all of my hobbies and pastimes and shifted all of my energy and focus into studying. During college, we were all warned of Freshman 15. However, I never would have thought it would happen to me since I was active growing up.

Throughout the years of continual studying, it took a toll on my body. The long hour days every single day of the week were strenuous and left little room for self care and exercise. My health deteriorated rapidly and I battled many different health conditions and symptoms. I could no longer walk up a flight of stairs without my heart pounding out of my chest – I lost my stamina. I had chronic heel pain that would last all day from the moment I got out of bed. I battled painful cystic acne, heart palpitations, severe headaches, weight gain, hormonal imbalances, and worst of all crushing exhaustion. Every morning I woke up feeling hit by a train day in and day out.  It was difficult and took every ounce of my strength just to get out of bed. It would take me several hours to just feel half-awake. I was drained, exhausted, and crashing. My usual state of being was just – tired. I felt like a water-downed version of myself. I could no longer recognize my active past-self.

I CONQUERED

Precious Naturopathic Medicine Saved Me.

With the holistic and integrative approach of naturopathic medicine, we were able to determine the root cause of my health conditions and deal with the hormonal imbalances and other health challenges. Many aspects of my symptoms were resolved. Other aspects are a work a progress as it is a process and journey on the path to healing and health. I am empowered with the tools and knowledge to be able to make those changes and able to become my active healthy self again.
